We are happy to share with you some fresh shots and words of Simone, Photographer and proud half of Frank Clous Studio, at her beautiful home studio in Rotterdam.
Simone, tell us a bit about you.
I’m a creative, passionate, calm dreamer living in The Netherlands, Rotterdam with my boyfriend and two cats. I turned my passion for photography into my job, and that is what I do for a living nowadays.
In a few words, how would you define your aesthetic?
Timeless and sophisticated - with a twist, I believe. If I need to style myself or a model I would photograph there's nothing much needed but each item must be on point. I like details such as beautiful fabrics, well shaped items etc. Simple but commanding!
What do you like the most about your work?
Passion is always a great guideline, but also freedom, teamwork and variety. I really like the feeling that no day is the same. You are the one on top of your schedule. You’re not only a photographer, but running your own business as well. For me it’s important that I'm also planning to go about 4 times a week to the gym, cook healthy meals and stuff like that. Not scheduling every day full of work like what I did in the past.
Designers, artists: whose work has influenced you and your work?
For me inspiration is literally everywhere. I can find inspiration by going out in a city and looking around, going to museums, reading beautiful sentences in a book, inspiring branding with good typography and paper works. I like the feeling of elements aligning just right - even in a dance performance. When the people, the music, the clothing and overall atmosphere fit I’m pleased, thrilled even! I confess I’m that kind of person who can feel a bit disappointed if in a restaurant something - even if just one element - doesn’t feel right. When the music doesn't match the space, for example.
What catches your attention the most in people/spaces?
A sparkle of authenticity and passion. In a crowded room, my eyes are drawn to those who radiate genuine warmth and speak with heartfelt conviction. The secret? Chase your passion while staying true to your essence.
What is your favorite place ever?
Hard question! Paris calls us often and is just a heartbeat away by train from Rotterdam. Even the joy of discovering new places gives a lot of new energy as well yet sometimes, the sweetest spot is simply home, nestled with my boyfriend and our two cats.
What does a Relaxed attitude mean to you?
A lot. If you feel grounded and happy with yourself and what you do, a good attitude will follow. I like to be around people who have a good energy around themselves.
3 favorites/must haves in your wardrobe?
Good pair of jeans, the perfect white t-shirt, blazer. These 3 are essential to me as you can style them for any occasion. When I’m on set I mostly wear a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. Whether I'm working in a studio or on location, I want to move in my clothing as freely as possible. Even off to work, the base of every good wardrobe starts with the right staples: just style your denim, t-shirt and blazer with a kitten heel and some jewelry to be ready for a night out.
